Daryl’s mezuzahs are all one of a kind. The mezuzah case comes boxed with an artists statement and definition of the mezuzah as well as self adhesive tapes and places for screws if you prefer. It does not include the scroll, but we can send you a copy of a non kosher scroll.
The term mezuzah means “doorpost” in Hebrew, and refers to a scroll with particular verses of the Torah which is placed in a container and attached to a doorpost outside a Jewish home. Normally, the container is attached to the doorpost on the right of the entrance and sometimes one may even be attached to doorposts outside of rooms in a home.
The mitzvah to place mezuzot on the doorposts of our houses is derived from Deut. 6:4-9, the Shema. In that passage, we are commanded to keep His words constantly in our minds and in our hearts by writing them on the doorposts of our house. The words of the Shema are written on a tiny scroll of parchment. On the back of the scroll, a name of G-d is written. The scroll is then rolled up and placed in the case and the letter Shin is written on the outside of the case.
