Maruca
Maruca was founded in 1994 by Rex Maruca who was selling fabric for the upholstery industry. A few years later, he decided to take the company to the next level by making handbags and the company excelled. Hiring a designer, a fabric cutter, and contracting with several local independent seamstresses who worked from home, Maruca began making a variety of bag shapes in multiple fabric patterns and colors. Over time the company developed a very large and loyal customer following and Maruca became known for its high-quality, artsy, and unique bags.
Maruca bags are made only with Jacquard fabrics, which means that the fabric patterns are woven using a special loom. We work in partnership with small independent U.S. fabric mills and the content of our fabrics can vary. Most of the threads are cotton, rayons and synthetics, and some threads are even made from recycled plastic bottles.
In 2020, the company was sold, and it is now women-owned and woman-run. Maruca still maintains a small design studio located near Denver, Colorado where every bag is still hand-cut, hand-sewn, and never mass produced. As a USA-based small business, we seek to balance resourcefulness, sustainability, and creativity, and we remain committed to the creation of high-quality, unique handmade products that will last for years to come.
